With the spring 2025 semester well under way, Bluestone Communications has welcomed several new students and fresh perspectives to the team! Change may not always be easy. It disrupts our comfort and brings uncertainty. When it comes to public relations, though, a new perspective can mean everything.

Students have diverse backgrounds. They’re exposed to a variety of things that shape their perspectives and experiences while in school. These different backgrounds and perspectives allow Bluestone Communications to cater to wider audiences and publics—students can see situations from different angles.

New students bring fresh ideas and creativity to the scene. Each student brings their own individual ideas and strengths to the table. This is a crucial aspect of successful public relations management. Students often challenge traditional ways of thinking and push each other to take more unique approaches to a problem.

Another game changer that students bring is digital and social media fluency. Social media is one of the most powerful ways to reach intended audiences. It’s unavoidable: a successful campaign will undoubtedly include several strategies and tactics revolving around shared media. Unlike older generations, who had to adapt to social media, the students of today grew up immersed in it. Who better to brainstorm a PR campaign about social media than the generation that spends several hours on it a day? And since students spend so much time on it each day, they are the first to recognize emerging trends on platforms like TikTok, Instagram, and X (formerly Twitter). Keeping up with trends and understanding what type of content will be successful is a key component for successful PR campaigns.

Students are also more in tune with their peers and the values audiences hold close to them. A shared understanding makes it easier to guess what will be perceived as authentic and valuable. This helps teams and clients select effective strategies that will have positive effects on target audiences. Companies and brands often struggle to connect with younger generations because they don't fully understand what's going to become a hit. A fresh student perspective brings an eye for relatable content. That may be just what a campaign is looking for!

A fresh student perspective is one of the greatest tools that a PR campaign can use. Although students might not yet understand every single undertaking or technical aspect of a campaign, they learn during every step of the process. It's important to emphasize everything that students bring to the public relations table!
